When was the Parish CWL formed and how many members are there?
Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Women’s League was formed on May 25, 1977 with seven members and in 2010 we now have close to 90 members. We are a part of the largest national organization of Catholic Women in Canada with a tradition of service to others.
How much does it cost to be a member?
There is a yearly fee of $14. Part of this money is sent to the CWL National Council.
I don’t like baking and I am not good a crafts, are there other things I can do?
There are many projects that don’t require these skills. Help is needed to sell tickets, assisting at events with distributing food and clean-up, organizing events, etc.
How often do you hold meetings and do I have to attend?
Meetings are held the second Thursday of each month in the Parish Hall (except July and August) at 7:00 p.m. While we encourage you to attend, members are kept up-to-date with the latest announcements and are sent the minutes of each meeting by e-mail.
How do you raise money?
Some of the ways we raise money is at our Christmas bazaar, Strawberry Tea, Lenten Lunch, bake sale and funeral receptions.
What do you do with the money you raise?
Money is donated to numerous local and international charitable and Christian organizations. Some of these organizations include: Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace for Haitian relief, Rogers House (CHEO), Esk-Omi Missions, Pro-Life, bursary for a local graduating high school student, Gable Fund which provides much-needed supplies to special needs students of Mother Theresa School; Habitat for Humanity, Winchester Hospital, Miriam Centre, and Save a Family which supports a poor family in India, etc.
