Parents must be registered parishioners and attend the Baptism Preparation Class prior to the date of baptism. The chosen godparents are not required to attend. These classes are held monthly. The Baptism Preparation Class is designed to inform parents about the Sacrament of Baptism and emphasize their responsibility to bring up their child in the practice of their faith.

CONFIRMATION & FIRST COMMUNION

The sacraments of Confirmation and First Communion are now received together at the same Mass in the Archdiocese of Ottawa.

Enrolment: Your child’s preparation period for these sacraments begins with an enrolment ceremony at Mass. During this rite your child will be requested to stand with your parents/godparents and affirm their commitment to become full members of the Catholic Church. It is important that your child attend the scheduled Mass for the enrolment.

Sponsor: Please note that your child’s sponsor should be a practicing Catholic, 16 years of age and older.

Orange Card: Your child’s teacher will be sending home an orange card to fill out. Please complete this card carefully. The Orange card is required by the Archdiocese for Confirmation and will be sent to your child’s parish of baptism by Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish. Filling out the card in full is therefore very important.

The Orange Card will be given to your child’s sponsor before the Mass begins. Your child’s sponsor will then give the card to the Priest at the time of confirmation. This helps the parish know who has received the sacrament of Confirmation.

FUNERALS

Our parish family of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal expresses our sympathy to you on your loss.

When planning for a funeral liturgy at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, the following scripture readings are suggested. Please read them over and choose the readings which best reflect where you are and where your loved one was in the Lord.

Please choose:

  1. One reading from the Old Testament readings
  2. One Psalm
  3. One reading from the New Testament readings
  4. One reading from the Gospel readings

You may wish to choose someone from your family or friends to read the first passages. The gospel is read by the presider.
